CSSB would like to congratulate our DESY campus colleague, Henry Chapman, on receiving one of the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prizes last week. Chapman received the 2.5-Million-Euro prize for his groundbreaking work in the development of femtosecond crystallography which decodes the structure of complex biomolecules in their natural environment at the atomic level. “Henry Chapman’s research will have a profound impact on the future of structural biology enabling scientist to study the atomic structure of proteins and create accurate 3D models.” explains Matthias Wilmanns, scientific director of the CSSB. “CSSB’s research into the structural mechanisms of the infection process will benefit greatly from the technological advances achieved by Chapman.”
