All human coronaviruses contain a single stranded RNA genome and share many similarities in viral replication. The Uetrecht group (UzL, DESY) has discovered new insights into the order of polyprotein processing and its influence on the formation of the replication/transcription complex (RTC). Burning, blisters, pain: More than 40 million people worldwide are infected with the herpes virus every year. The virus can pose a serious threat to newborns and people with weakened immune systems. Researchers in Hamburg and Göttingen have now generated a mini-antibody that neutralizes a protein essential for the infection. Read more
