PhD Award granted to Jiri Wald

| News

In early November, Jiri Wald from the Marlovits group (UKE) received the Vienna BioCenter PhD Award. Jiri, who began his PhD at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) and Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Vienna, was one of five students who received the award for their outstanding doctoral research. His thesis showed how the RuvAB branch migration complex, a complex molecular motor, converts chemical energy into mechanical work to allow the recombination and repair of DNA. The paper was published this August in Nature.

“After working for many years to unravel the workings of this complex machinery, it’s great receive this award from my peers at the Vienna BioCenter,” notes Wald.
