Dr. Sukrit Srivastava from the Kolbe Group has been awarded this prestigious fellowship for the commercialization of an antigenic patch based diagnostic kit.

CSSB scientist Dr. Sukrit Srivastava from the research group of Prof. Michael Kolbe has been awarded the prestigious Helmholtz Enterprise Field Study Fellowship. This fellowship supports Dr. Srivastava's pioneering work in designing and developing novel diagnostic kits to combat human pathogens with pandemic potential.

Dr. Srivastava aims to create cost-effective, user-friendly diagnostic kits that facilitate self-testing and the detection of emerging pathogen variants. His innovative approach utilizes antigenic patches containing multiple antigens from pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2, responsible for COVID-19, and Streptococcus pyogenes, the causative agent of rheumatic heart disease.

With a proof of concept already established, this project hopes to revolutionize surveillance tools for infections with pandemic potential thus providing a critical asset in the global fight against infectious diseases. The fellowship will enable Dr. Srivastava and his team to further refine and validate their diagnostic kits, paving the way for widespread implementation and enhanced public health response capabilities.

“I would like to congratulate Sukrit on this significant achievement and I look forward to the impactful contributions his research will bring to global health security,” states group leader Michael Kolbe.
